The Milky Way Galaxy May Have Several Wandering

The Milky Way Galaxy May Have Several Wandering

In a new study, a team of astronomers from Yale Center for Astronomy & Astrophysics, the University of Washington, Institut d Astrophysique de Paris, and University College London predicts that galaxies with a mass similar to our Milky Way Galaxy should host several supermassive black holes.
Typically, a supermassive black hole exists at the core of a massive galaxy.

But sometimes they may wander throughout their host galaxy, remaining far from the center in regions such as the stellar halo, a nearly spherical area of stars and gas that surrounds the main section of the galaxy.

Astronomers theorize that this phenomenon often occurs as a result of mergers between galaxies in an expanding Universe.

A smaller galaxy will join with a larger, main galaxy, depositing its own, central supermassive black hole onto a wide orbit within the new host.

In the new study, Dr. Michael Tremmel, a postdoctoral fellow at the Yale Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics, and co-authors predict that galaxies with a mass similar to the Milky Way should host several supermassive black holes.

The researchers used a new, state-of-the-art cosmological simulation, Romulus, to predict the dynamics of supermassive black holes within galaxies with better accuracy than previous simulation programs.

It is extremely unlikely that any wandering supermassive black hole will come close enough to our Sun to have any impact on our Solar System, Dr. Tremmel said.
We estimate that a close approach of one of these wanderers that is able to affect the Solar System should occur every 100 billion years or so, or nearly 10 times the age of the Universe.
Since wandering supermassive black holes are predicted to exist far from the centers of galaxies and outside of galactic disks, they are unlikely to accrete more gas — making them effectively invisible, he added.
We are currently working to better quantify how we might be able to infer their presence indirectly.

Philips has its own pair of cheap Bluetooth earbuds

Philips has its own pair of cheap Bluetooth earbuds

One of the standout trends at IFA is the number of companies flinging themselves onto the Truly Wireless earbud bandwagon. It's clear that it's not just a niche product that Bragi and Samsung are catering to, but an audio product for everyone. Because the latest company to throw a hat into the ring is none other than mass-market experts Philips.

Gallery: Philips Bass+ Bluetooth Earbuds | 5 Photos

Philips is one of the world's largest audio manufacturers, with a reputation for being stuffy, unsexy but dependable. The company is looking to change some of that, however, pushing a new range of audio gear that includes the BASS+ line, which includes the BASS+ True Wireless Headphones. The headline point of which is that you can get premium-style Bluetooth earbuds for just $130.
The biggest difference between many of its rivals and the BASS+ buds is that they're significantly larger than the rest. Philips believes that shrinking the driver and placing it into the ear tube itself compromises the sound you can get. As a consequence, the company has seen fit to include an 8.2mm driver in each bud with the promise of "big, bold bass."
Trying the device very quickly during the trade show, it's clear that the bass is a little louder than Philips' rivals. But the audio quality is otherwise equal to several other high-end headphone brands, and the company's experience here clearly shows. We'll reserve judgment for now, but there's reason enough to be excited about the BASS+' potential.
Battery life is another big selling point, and those larger bodies make for larger batteries, with a promised run time of up to six hours. The charging case, meanwhile, has an on-board battery that can hold one full charge, meaning that you can get half a day out of these before heading to an outlet.
Even wearing them for just a few seconds, the fact that the BASS+ has hard buttons rather than a touch panel is going to be an issue. Because as you push the button into your ear, you can feel the rubber tip scrape against your ear canal with the additional pressure. But given the significant drop in price compared to other versions of this technology, it may be the cross you have to bear.

The Most important phone in the years is LG V30 is T-Mobile

The Most important phone in the years is LG V30 is T-Mobile

Very early this morning, a bunch of LG execs standing in Barcelona unveiled the LG V30 to the world’s assembled press (or those who were awake, at least). On paper and in person, it has potential to be the best Android phone launched this year, and it’s certainly going to go toe-to-toe with Samsung’s new Galaxy Note 8 for the heavyweight phablet belt.
But forget all the who-has-the-biggest-camera-lens braggarding for a second, because the LG V30 has one feature that no phone ever launched before does: compatibility with T-Mobile’s new 600MHz network.
The network has confirmed that the LG V30’s Qualcomm X16 modem is compatible with LTE Band 71, which is a complicated way of saying that the phone works on T-Mobile’s new 600MHz network.
What is T-Mobile’s new network, and why should you care? Simple: earlier this year, T-Mobile spent $8 billion on spectrum licenses for the 600MHz band covering the entire country. 600MHz is low-band spectrum, which means it’s particularly good for coverage in rural areas and inside buildings.
Historically, a big part of the advantage in coverage enjoyed by Verizon and AT&T has been down to its low-band spectrum. Verizon in particular is famous for having great coverage in the middle of nowhere, and a good part of that is down to its low-band signal travelling further than T-Mobile’s mid-band signal.
T-Mobile is working hard (and spending serious money!) to nullify that advantage. It plans to have a million square miles of the country covered by its new 600MHz LTE network by the end of the year, and the first two locations (in Wymoing and Maine) are already up and running.
That brings us back to the LG V30, and why it should be at the top of the wish list for every T-Mobile customer today. In order to take advantage of this brand-new network, T-Mobile customers will need a band 71-compatible device, and right now, that means the LG V30.
More devices are definitely coming. T-Mobile CTO Neville Ray has told BGR that a B71-compatible Samsung device will launch by the end of the year, and I’d also be surprised if the iPhone 8 comes without support for band 71.
But today is a real milestone for T-Mobile. Its 600MHz network is online, and anyone who a) lives in Wyoming or Maine, and b) wants a brand-new Android phone can start enjoying the network right now.

Nintendo unveils its new console: Switch connects to TV in dock and can be played as a handheld

With removable ‘Joy-Con’ controllers, it is capable of both single and multiplayer use whether you’re playing at home or on-the-go

Nintendo has unveiled a shape-shifting console that allows players to switch instantly between home and mobile gaming. Called Nintendo Switch, the new system connects to the TV when mounted in its dock
Key points,
  • Nintendo Switch connects to TV in dock, or can be played as a handheld
  • Removable Joy-Con controllers enable both single and multiplayer use
  • Yet to reveal price or launch date, but product will be released in March

Nintendo has unveiled a shape-shifting console that allows players to switch instantly between home and mobile gaming.
The tablet-like console clicks into the Nintendo Switch Dock, connecting it to the TV. In this version, the controller can be used much like a classic system, with grips and buttons on both sides, as pictured.

Called Nintendo Switch, the new system connects to the TV when mounted in its dock – and when removed, it transitions to ‘portable mode’ to be played through a handheld device.
With removable ‘Joy-Con’ controllers, it is capable of both single and multiplayer use whether you’re playing at home or on-the-go.
The console is set to be launched in March, according to the firm, and many details still have yet to be released – including price and the list of titles that will be available at its release.
But, a new video released today by Nintendo highlights the versatility of the system.
The tablet-like console clicks into the Nintendo Switch Dock, connecting it to the TV.
In this version, the controller can be used much like a classic system, with grips and buttons on both sides.
But, these components can be detached to create two independent Joy-Con controllers as well.
For single player use, one person can play with a controller in each hand.
Or, two people can play using one Joy-Con controller each.
The video also shows how the console can be used for mobile gaming by simply lifting the device out of the dock.

This immediately switches it to portable mode, and the Joy-Con controllers slide onto each side of the screen.
In this mode, as well, the controllers can be removed in both single player and multiplayer scenarios.
The video shows how a supporting arm pulls out from the back so it can stand upright on a flat surface.
According to the firm, the system will also support multiplayer ‘face-to-face competition’ by bringing numerous Nintendo Switch systems together.
‘Nintendo Switch allows gamers the freedom to play however they like,’ said Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO, Nintendo of America.
‘It gives game developers new abilities to bring their creative visions to life by opening up the concept of gaming without boundaries.’
In the months leading up to its official release this coming March, the firm says they will be unveiling full game demonstrations, the list of launch window titles, the configuration and specs.
And, the details on the actual launch date and price are soon to come, as well.

"Share videos without using any data" YouTube Go app

"Share videos without using any data" YouTube Go app

Google has announced YouTube Go, a new app designed to broaden the accessibility of the behemoth video-sharing service. Designed and developed with Indian users in mind, who will be able to test the app first before a broader rollout, YouTube Go is intended to work more effectively in areas where connectivity is more limited.

YouTube Go allows users to save videos for offline viewing, giving options over quality and file size so it's clear how much data a download will use. The app also allows for local sharing with nearby users without using any data. YouTube Go builds upon the Smart Offline feature that YouTube launched first in India earlier this year.

"YouTube Go is a brand new app to help the next generation of users share and enjoy videos," YouTube product management VP Johanna Wright says in a statement. "YouTube Go was designed and built from the ground up with insights from India, in order to bring the power of video to mobile users in a way that is more conscious of their data and connectivity, while still being locally relevant and social."

YouTube Go was announced at a Google event in Delhi where the company revealed several new products aimed at the Indian market; many of these will later make it around the world. "In an increasingly mobile-first world, India gives us early insights into the future of the Internet," Google CEO Sundar Pichai wrote in an op-ed for The Economic Times today. "Moreover, we learned the issues Indians may have with connectivity and data constraints can be universal."

Indian users can sign up now to test YouTube Go, but there's no word on when the app will formally launch in the country or elsewhere.

A new device launch-HTC company

A new device launch-HTC company

HTC teased a new smartphone launch scheduled for next week, with speculation it is set to update its Desire mid-tier line.
The company added three videos to a launch webpage, highlighting features including a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. One also contained a circle with the number 150 inside, which may be a reference to a wide-angle 150 degree camera, with another featuring design elements such as gold edging.
The speculation is that the company will offer two Desire 10 devices, tagged Pro and Lifestyle, with the former having the higher-end specs.
Mooted specifications include 5.5-inch HD screens (720p for Lifestyle, 1080p for Pro), with 13MP main and 5MP front cameras, Boomsound speakers, and Qualcomm processors.
HTC is in a prolonged period of transition following tough times in its core smartphone business, which has seen it making significant cost cuts as it looks to align spending with sales.
In the company’s most recent conference call, it was bullish about its sales performance in the second half of the year, building on momentum generated by its HTC 10 flagship.

US safety regulators have announced a formal recall of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7

US safety regulators have announced a formal recall of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7

" This Galaxy Note 7 reportedly caught fire shortly after its charger was unplugged"
US safety regulators have announced a formal recall of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 after reports of fires caused by faulty batteries.
The South Korean tech giant had already launched a voluntary recall after user complaints about 'exploding' phones.
According to Samsung, the problem affects 2.5 million devices globally, including 1 million in the US.
The recall comes at a crucial time as rival Apple has just released its new iPhone 7 flagship model.
"Because this product presents such a serious fire hazard, I am urging all consumers... to take advantage of this recall right away,'' Elliot Kaye, chairman of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission said.
Mr Kaye said Samsung should not have tried to do the recall by itself, saying: "Anybody who thinks that a company going out on its own is going to provide the best recall for that company, and more importantly for the consumer, needs to have more than their phone checked,"
So far, Samsung has received 92 reports of the batteries overheating in the US, including 26 reports of burns and 55 of property damage, according to the commission's website.
The company said it would speed up its recall, with Tim Baxter, president of Samsung Electronics America saying that "consumer safety is always our highest priority."
What makes lithium batteries catch fire?

Flight warnings

Samsung has come under fire for its response to reports of battery problems over the past weeks.
On 2 September the firm said it would stop selling the phones and offered to replace the ones already sold.
The company last week advised people to stop using the device.
Samsung also said it would limit the batteries of the Note 7 to 60% of their capacity via a software update.
The US Department of Transportation meanwhile has ordered airline passengers not to bring the phones on planes unless they keep them turned off and don't charge them during the flight.
Passengers were even advised against packing the phones into any checked-in luggage.
A number of airlines around the globe have also banned the phone from being used or charged on their planes.
The phone was launched on 19 August and had been generally well-received by critics and consumers.
The Galaxy Note 7 model is the latest of Samsung's series of so-called phablets - smartphones with very large screens.

Alexa on new Fire HD 8 tablet- Amazon

Amazon announced its latest Fire HD tablet, called Fire HD 8, which brings the Alexa voice service to the tablets for the first time.
In a statement, the online retail giant said that the new device offers “12 hours of battery life, 50 per cent more RAM for faster performance, and 2x the on-device storage, plus support for up to 200 GB of additional storage via a microSD card—all for only $89.99”.
Kevin Keith, general manager of Amazon’s Fire tablet business, said: ““We believe in a different approach to tablets—providing premium products at non-premium prices—and customers love it. In fact, we’ve seen Fire tablet sales more than double year-over-year as a result.”
Alexa, Amazon’s cloud-based voice service, has previously been available via the company’s Echo in-home device. It offers voice-driven navigation of entertainment and internet content, and supports third-party extensions from companies such as Pandora and Spotify.
With voice-controlled services a hot topic, and with Google, Apple (Siri) and Microsoft (Cortana) all on the case, Amazon is clearly looking to make sure it is early to the party. And by extending from Echo to Fire tablets, it is also progressively increasing its user base.
Alexa will also be available on some other Fire tablets, with an over-the-air software update in the coming months. The cloud-based service is also said to “get smarter over time”, meaning more capabilities will be supported in future.
Fire HD 8 has an 8-inch (1280×800 pixel) screen, and is powered by a 1.3GHz quadcore processor and 1.5GB of RAM. 16GB and 32GB storage options are available (with microSD expansion).
There are four colour options: black, magenta, blue and orange.
