Loew blocked from meeting Ozil at Arsenal training, report

Loew blocked from meeting Ozil at Arsenal training, report

Germany head coach Joachim Loew was reportedly blocked from meeting Mesut Ozil at Arsenal’s training ground on Monday to discuss the midfielder’s fiery retirement from international duty.

Loew and Germany’s team director Oliver Bierhoff were in London at the weekend to take part in a FIFA coaching congress and then visited Arsenal’s training ground in Colney, north of London, for clear-the-air talks with Ozil.

According to German daily Bild, Loew and Bierhoff were turned away at the entrance to Arsenal’s training ground, on the orders of Gunners’ head coach Unai Emery, while the squad was put through a recovery session.

The visit had been previously arranged, so Loew and Bierhoff later met the Gunners’ Germany internationals Bernd Leno and Shkodran Mustafi at the club’s visitors centre without speaking to Ozil.

“We would have liked to have spoken to Mesut, but we have to accept that at the moment he doesn’t want to have this conversation with us,” said Bierhoff.

Ozil’s agent Erkut Sogut, who Bierhoff had reportedly contacted before the visit, declined to comment on the reason for the rejection.

At the start of the month, Loew said he has often already tried to contact Ozil, but without success.

After 92 appearances, 23 goals and 40 assists for Germany, Ozil retired from international duty in July, citing ‘disrespect and racism’ within the German Football Association (DFB), taking direct aim at president Reinhard Grindel.

“In the eyes of Grindel and his supporters, I am German when we win, but I am an immigrant when we lose,” the 2014 World Cup winner, who was born in Germany to Turkish parents, wrote in a statement.

Having been the target of xenophobic comments on social media and singled out for blame in the wake of Germany’s woeful World Cup display, Ozil, 29, received little public support from Loew or Germany’s stars.

Loew only responded publically to Ozil’s claims at the end of August when he rejected any notion of racism within the national team.

Good betting tips you should know before betting

Good betting tips you should know before betting

1. Use a Simple Bucket Budget to Manage Your Money

Effective money management is critical to good gambling habits and while many people do commit themselves to risking no more than a certain amount of money on any gambling excursion, you can create a better budget than that. But no one wants to saddle themselves with a complicated spreadsheet they have to consult on every game.
What you want to do is rotate your money as you play. Say for example you visit your local casino with $60. You could go in with 5 $10 bills, a $50 bill and 10 singles, etc. It would be better to settle on how many tickets you want to rotate. Three is a nice modest number, so get three $20 bills.
This way you can start out with small wagers and hope to roll them up. If you run through the $20 on your first game move on to a different game.
When you get to a point where you have doubled one ticket take your money and divide it so that you always have three tickets (or four if that is how you want to play). As long as you have as many tickets as you started playing with you don’t have to stop and think about your money.
A good rule of thumb is to pull any ticket that you have doubled in value.  As long as you have at least one ticket with double value or greater you can risk playing down another ticket.

2. Look for Smaller Jackpots

Whether you are playing the slots, keno, or roulette you will see the temptation to play a game that promises a crazy payoff.  Always remember that the money for those payoffs comes from the players.
So if you are playing the slots, pick the game that pays 4,000 max credits instead of the game that pays 10,000 max credits. Your chances of winning are better with the smaller payoffs. This is due to a low variance in the game design.
If you ignore all warnings from experienced gamblers to play keno, go for a small number of picks. The safest range of picks is 3 to 5. You don’t risk as much money because you’re more likely to win something.

3. Make Smaller Bets

Some gambling advice articles suggest you should “go big or go broke”. That is terrible advice. The faster you lose your money the sooner you will be done gambling. If you just want to get out of the casino then leave immediately and save your cash. Otherwise, stretch it out by making small bets.
Unless the rules of the game make it more likely that you’ll win by betting more there is no reason to “bet more to win more”. Your chances of winning or losing are the same regardless of whether you bet $1 or $100. But you have more chances to win or lose when you bet $1 than when you bet $100.
If the prizes are proportionally the same regardless of the size of the bet then you gain nothing by betting more. You’re not just multiplying your wins you’re also multiplying your losses when make larger wagers.
Some people sneer at the idea of playing small wagers. Ignore them. If they don’t do the math and see that they can stay in the game longer with small bets that is their mistake.
You might win $1000 with a $5 bet. That is always true. And if you played a $1 bet and only won $200 you may feel like you cheated yourself by not making that larger bet. Don’t do this to yourself. What you have to think about is how many more wagers you can make with your current bankroll, assuming you never win until the last wager.
The more wagers you make the more times you should win.

4. Play the Short Odds, Not the Long Odds

It may not be as much fun to win $20 as to win $200 but the short odds tell you who most people favor in a game. When enough experienced bettors are favoring one competitor over another, that’s a signal you’re not likely to win on the long odds.
Yes, there is always that occasional event where something unexpected happens. It wouldn’t be gambling if we were never surprised. Conservative betting may produce modest wins but it produces more wins than aggressive betting, especially if you don’t like doing the research.
The same principle holds true in table games and slot games. In blackjack, for example, experienced players don’t like to be dealt a 15 or 16 in their hand. The chances of winning are less than if they are dealt an 18. And you can always hit on an 11 or less.

5. Use Time Management and Money Management Systems

You can’t change the odds and probabilities with a betting system but you can and should manage your gambling habits and budget. Too many players just walk into the casino, start gambling, and keep going without any idea of how long they will play or how much they will risk.
It’s okay to visit the ATM once, although you will save a few dollars if you withdraw your cash at your bank’s ATM. If you keep pulling money out of your accounts all night long, maybe you should take a break from gambling and come back another evening.Setting a time limit on how long you play a game is good for several reasons.

6. Play Free Games Before Playing for Money

If you are out of practice or have never played a gambling game before, look for free versions of the game online where you can practice. Many Websites now offer free games for roulette, blackjack, and slot games in a “try before you buy” spirit.
You can learn the rules of the card games without risking your money by playing free games. It’s not exactly the same experience when you play a computer but you should invest a few hours in studying how blackjack works by playing the free games with a tutorial. You can take your time looking up the probability tables on each hand.
This won’t make you an expert overnight but you’ll feel more confident when you sit down at that table with the live dealer.

WWE’s Shinsuke Nakamura: Anatomy of the Kinshasa

WWE’s Shinsuke Nakamura: Anatomy of the Kinshasa

WWE’s Shinsuke Nakamura: Anatomy of the Kinshasa

WWE is home to some of the most unique superstars in wrestling and all sports. Out of the whole roster, no one is more idiosyncratic than The Artist Known As Shinsuke Nakamura.
His Michael Jackson-esque movements and hypersonic kicks are equally unorthodox and lethal. The centrepiece of it all is the Kinshasa, a running knee strike to the head.

It looks simple but there’s more behind just a KNEE… TO… FACE! The story begins before WWE, 30 years before Shinsuke even began wrestling.

What is Strong Style?

To explain the Kinshasa, one must explain the meaning of Strong Style. After all, Shinsuke Nakamura is widely known as “The King Of Strong Style”.

This form of pro wrestling was innovated by Antonio Inoki upon starting his New Japan Pro Wrestling promotion in 1972. Strong Style fuses classic technical wrestling and martial arts techniques with an emotional edge.

NJPW is not the only catalyst for the Kinshasa. Inoki is also famous for his 1976 exhibition fight with boxer Muhammad Ali.
It is the first mixed martial arts match as well as an influence on Strong Style wrestling. Following the fight, Inoki and Ali became good friends, with Inoki adopting Ali’s catchphrase “boma ye”. In Lingala, it translates to “kill him”.

Remember that phrase; “Boma Ye”, as it permeates the whole story.

Knee to Face

29 August, 2002, a 22-year-old Shinsuke Nakamura emerges from the Inoki Dojo as New Japan Pro Wrestling’s most impressive prospect, their “Super Rookie”.

What makes his early career so intriguing is that he juggled both wrestling and mixed martial arts, being a nimble and tough fighter in each.

The greatest challenge of Nakamura’s MMA run was Alexey Ignashov, a kickboxer from Belarus. A young and nervous Shinsuke couldn’t control his anxious shakes, couldn’t focus. He panicked and went for a tackle.

Alexey reversed it with a knee strike to Shinsuke’s face, the first Kinshasa (at 15:59 in the video below) .

His nose was broken and bloody, ending the match by referee stoppage. After healing the injury, he returned to avenge his no-contest to Ignashov before hanging up his MMA gloves for good.

Newcastle and NSW halfback Mitchell Pearce out for four months with pec injury
Newcastle's season has taken a significant hit and NSW are in search of a new State of Origin halfback after Mitchell Pearce was ruled out for four months with a pectoral injury.

Scans confirmed on Sunday that Pearce would need surgery on a ruptured pectoral muscle after he left the field in agony in Tamworth on Saturday night following an attempt to make a tackle.
The surgery would leave him sidelined for around 16 weeks, ruling him out of the entire Origin series and making him unavailable for the Knights until approximately round 23.

The injury will place a large stress on the Knights who are already waiting on five-eighth Connor Watson to return from a shoulder injury, with youngsters Jack Cogger and Brock Lamb as coach Nathan Brown's other options.

Southampton vs Chelsea

Southampton vs Chelsea

Chelsea will be looking to get back to winning ways following a poor run of form when they take on Southampton at St Mary’s on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues have won just one of their last five league games and saw their hopes of finishing in the top four dealt a major blow after they were held to a 1-1 draw by West Ham at Stamford Bridge last weekend.

That result has left Chelsea sitting fifth in the table and ten points adrift of Tottenham so Antonio Conte knows his side face a tough task to qualify for the Champions League next season.

Southampton are also in desperate need of points as they head in to the weekend action 18th in the table and three points from safety following their 3-2 defeat at Arsenal last time out.

However, Mark Hughes’s men do have a game in hand over some of their relegation rivals so they’ll be looking to boost their survival hopes with a positive result on Sunday.

TEAM NEWS

Chelsea could welcome Ross Barkley back in to the squad but David Luiz remains out with a long-term knee injury while Nathan Ampadu is also still unavailable.

Andreas Christensen is pushing for a recall while Conte could freshen things up with Tiemoue Bakayoko, Olivier Giroud and Pedro all hoping to be involved.

Southampton will be without Jack Stephens after he was sent off against Arsenal last week and Hughes has confirmed youngster Jan Bednarek is set to make his full debut.

Steven Davis and Sam McQueen remain out through injury while Shane Long is a major doubt with an ankle problem.

Predicted Scored
Southampton 1-2 Chelsea: The Saints have won just one of their last nine league games against Chelsea at home and only Man Utd have won more games at St Mary’s than Chelsea, so the Blues certainly enjoy travelling to the south coast.

Southampton have to attack as they need a result and that may leave them vulnerable to being picked up by Chelsea as they can’t just sit back. I’m going for a narrow away win.

Celtic defeat can not solve Rangers' problems said by Graeme Murty

Celtic defeat can not solve Rangers' problems said by Graeme Murty

Graeme Murty denied Rangers are suffering an Old Firm hangover despite seeing them slip up for the third game running.
Gers had to mount a second-half comeback against Motherwell on Saturday to avoid a hat-trick of consecutive top-flight league defeats for the first time since October 2000.

But they could only claim a 2-2 draw as James Tavernier and James Murphy cancelled out early Curtis Main and Allan Campbell strikes for Well.
It means the Ibrox side have taken just one point from the last nine available following defeats to Celtic and Kilmarnock and, as well as allowing Aberdeen to move level on points in the race for second, they now have Hibernian racing up just four points behind, with both rivals also boasting a game in hand.
But Murty insists his team's latest disappointment has nothing to do with last month's morale-sapping 3-2 loss to Brendan Rodgers' 10-man Hoops at Ibrox.
"No, it's down to this game, we just didn't deal with Motherwell's threat," he said. "It's nothing to do with any previous game, we just didn't deal with a very specific area of trouble to our team and it caused us problems.
"We changed mindset rather than tactics in the second half and dealt with it much better."

 Australians Banned For Ball Tampering

Smith, 28, and Bancroft, 25, have also been suspended from captaining Australia for at least the next two years.
Warner, 31, will not be considered for "any team leadership positions in the future", Cricket Australia said.
Cricket Australia had already concluded that coach Darren Lehmann was not involved in the controversy and he will remain in his post.
The body's chief executive James Sutherland said the three players were "sad, disappointed and remorseful".
He added: "This has caused damage to the game as a whole and certainly to Cricket Australia. It has compromised the fans' faith in cricket and it's our responsibility to reinstate that confidence.
"It appears to be an isolated incident but if there are other allegations we will take them further. There was some courage in owning up but there was an element of untruth and that's something we took into consideration."
Smith, Warner and Bancroft are banned from international and Australian domestic cricket. They will also serve 100 hours of "voluntary service in community cricket" and can appeal against the suspension.
Cricket Australia said the players would be "permitted to play [Australian] club cricket and will be encouraged to do so".
They also remain eligible for competition outside of Australia, but earlier on Wednesday Smith and Warner were also banned from this season's Indian Premier League.

Man United step up Celtic’s Kieran Tierney chase

Man United step up Celtic’s Kieran Tierney chase

Man United & Celtic’s Kieran Tierney

An old transfer rumour has been recycled by Duncan Castles in the Daily Record on Monday.
According to the report in the Scottish press, Manchester United are again stepping up their interest in Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney.
Tierney has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford, however the 20-year-old recently agreed a new long term deal with Celtic.

Last October, Tierney, who has been with Celtic since 2005, put pen to paper on a new deal with the Glasgow-based outfit, tying him down until 2023.
The Daily Record report the following on Man United’s interest:

Man United & Faouzi Ghoulam
Could Faouzi Ghoulam join the Red Devils from Napoli this summer?
That possibility has been floated by France Football in the past few days.
They claim that Ghoulam’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has already spoken to Man United about a possible summer deal.

27-year-old Algerian international Faouzi Ghoulam has a 35 million euro release clause.
This season Ghoulam has two goals and three assists in 17 games for Napoli.
Ghoulam is on the comeback trail after an injury-plagued 2017-18 season.
After starring in the early part of the season, Ghoulam tore his anterior cruciate ligament in early November.
In February, just as he was about to make his comeback, Ghoulam suffered a freak accident in training and fractured his kneecap.

Southampton will not be easy for Chelsea in FA Cup semi-final said by Antonio Conte

Southampton will not be easy for Chelsea in FA Cup semi-final said by Antonio Conte

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte believes Southampton could pose a tough test to the West London side as the two teams have been paired in the FA Cup Semi-Final, due to be played at Wembley.
The tie is expected to be played on the weekend of 21-22 April. The other FA Cup semi-final sees Manchester United take on Tottenham Hotspur.

Chelsea overcame Leicester City in a 2-1 win in extra time away at the King Power Stadium on Sunday evening, with Willian and Pedro grabbing their vital goals. Meanwhile, a positive second half and goals from Pierre-Emil Hojbjerg and Cedric Soares saw Saints power through Wigan Athletic.
Given Saints’ troubles this season - Mark Hughes’ men now sit in the relegation zone with a game in hand after Crystal Palace defeated Huddersfield Town 2-0 - Conte’s Chelsea got the favourable cup draw.

But the Italian manager is not resting on his laurels and believes Southampton could prove a challenge for last season’s Premier League champions.
“When you arrive at this point of the tournament it’s very difficult to consider an easy game,” Conte told reporters at the King Power Stadium. [H/T the Standard]
”Don’t forget Man City were eliminated against Wigan.

”We must be ready to fight to try to reach the final at Wembley for the second time in a row. It will be very important for us, but we must know Southampton will have the same idea.”
We’re sure Conte is just trying to be kind, but was punching the air inside his head.

Jack Wilshere admits new Arsenal deal is some way off

Jack Wilshere admits new Arsenal deal is some way off

Jack Wilshere has claimed he isn’t any closer to signing a new deal with Arsenal, and it seems that despite Wenger saying the ball is in the player’s court, it seems that they might have to wait before he puts pen to paper, after the player made it clear they certainly need to sit down and talk before anything happens.

He said to Standard Sport: “Yeah, but things have changed since then and all I can tell you is that we are no closer to sorting anything out.”

 Changes
Arsene Wenger has taken the chance to speak about the Arsenal fans and the relationship he has with them – and claimed they don’t hate him personally, but that they want a manager who can deliver them the best results, and currently Wenger isn’t that in their eyes.

However, the manager said that he is someone who can do that – and he wants to make all Arsenal fans happy.
“It’s not the person they hate, they hate the manager who doesn’t deliver the performance,” Wenger told Sky Sports News. “I can make that difference.

“But I’m just unhappy that we lose the games. I want to win, win with style even, so it’s very ambitious. When we don’t do it of course I’m suffering like everyone else.

“Arsenal is 30 million people, it’s not the suffering of one person, you want to make 30 million people happy and that’s what you care about.

“Football is first about values, if I can leave that behind me and that maybe somewhere people respect that Arsenal is [not only] about winning or losing, but as well about what is important in the game,” he said.

“My regret personally is that has gone completely underwater. You don’t speak about that anymore, it’s only about the side of the game that is important but is not essential.”

Interview: Goalkeeping coach Neil Cutler glad to be back at West Brom

Interview: Goalkeeping coach Neil Cutler glad to be back at West Brom

Qn: How do you improve a player like Ben Foster, someone who has spent more than a decade as one of the most consistent goalkeepers in the Premier League?

Albion’s No.1 is arguably their jewel in the crown. He has been named both supporters’ player of the year and players’ player of the year in three of his six full seasons at The Hawthorns.
An England international who has bounced back from that set-back in his 30s in stunning fashion, he has consistently bailed the Baggies out of holes over the past few years.
So how can a new goalkeeping coach improve someone who’s seen it all before?
That is the task that has been given to Neil Cutler, who at 41, is only a few years older than Foster and back-up keeper Boaz Myhill.
Cutler is an Albion fan himself and joined from Walsall three weeks ago after being recommended to head coach Alan Pardew by a number of people – including Foster.
His passion, ambition, and hunger came across in an exclusive in-depth interview at the Palm training ground this week.
“I don’t think you can go in as a new coach and go ‘bang, that’s me’,” he said. “You have to drip-feed your ideas, your thoughts and personality.
"Especially because I’m working with 34 and 35-year-olds who know the game..
It’s not about saying you have to do it my way, it’s about going in and saying ‘ok that’s the way you do it, what would happen if you do it this way?’
“You can’t just crack the whip, it doesn’t work, that’s not the way to motivate players, especially ones that have been in the Premier League so long.”
Keen observers will have noticed that Foster has improved certain aspects of his game recently.
Even though the Baggies have let in eight goals in their last three games, he was brilliant at Anfield, the Etihad Stadium, and at home to Southampton.
“Ben has been fantastic in terms of listening and learning and wanting to understand, and it’s already working I think,” said Cutler.
“His starting position in relation to the ball is far better, he’s taking more crosses, which is what we worked on.
“His distribution is getting better all the time. We’re just working on little aspects of his game that are going to help.
“He’s such a front-foot reactive goalkeeper that sometimes he gets dragged a little bit down the line, we have to hold him back a little bit.
“He’s really buying into it. He’s such a good down-to-earth open character that you can approach it any way you like.
“I’ve known him a long time. When he first joined Stoke from Racing Club Warwick a long time ago I was at Stoke.
“He knows my character as well, he knows what I like. It’s a two-way thing.
“We do our debriefs altogether as a unit, so he’ll sit there and I’ll ask kids questions about what they see Ben doing and he’s open to that.
“I think his form has been really good. I’ve said to him, you can’t get frustrated with results. He’s played well in those games.
“When the ball hits the back of the net you can always criticise yourself, but if you can allow me to nitpick and allow him to get on with it, that keeps him psychologically strong.”
It’s not just Foster that Cutler has seen an immediate response from, he’s also been impressed with Boaz Myhill.
“Boaz has really bought into it too,” he said. “He’s looking quicker around the goal already. Even at 35 he’s trying to add things to his game, and I think it’s really paying off for him.
“I’m trying to give them the inches, little things that may help their game develop a little bit. Just keep moving forward, keep testing them.
“If he’s not playing at the weekend, why is he coming in? What’s his goal? If you give him a goal, keep him competitive, when his chance comes again, he’s ready.”

Barca must move on

Andres Iniesta has urged Barcelona to move on quickly from Sunday’s controversial Catalan derby against Espanyol.

The 1-1 draw was overshadowed by heavy rain and hostility towards Gerard Pique, who scored Barca’s equaliser, but Iniesta made it clear “it’s a derby and that’s where everything must end.”

“The points were shared, but we still added to our tally,” the midfielder told BeIN Sports after the game.

“The conditions weren’t the best, but it was an entertaining derby. We want everything to be calm now. It’s a derby and that’s where everything must end.

“We adapted well. There were flooded areas on the pitch, but the team had a great game and made a great effort.

“We came back from a goal down and we leave with the feeling that the team had a good game.”

The Karl Oyston leaves role as Blackpool chairman

The Karl Oyston leaves role as Blackpool chairman

Blackpool have announced Karl Oyston is no longer chairman or director of the Sky Bet League One club.
Blackpool confirmed Oyston's departure in a statement on Friday, which read: "Natalie Christopher has been appointed the new Chairwoman of Blackpool Football Club.

"Mr Karl Oyston is no longer Chairman or Director of the club, or any other Oyston Group company.
"The club will make no further comment at this time."

The company that owns the club and Blackpool's assets, including their Bloomfield Road stadium, was put up for sale on November 10, 2017, four days after the Oyston family - the club's majority owners - lost a high court battle with ex business partner Valeri Belokon.

Belokon bought a 20 per cent stake for £4.5million in 2006 and served as the club's president until last August, when he resigned.
By then, however, he had been in dispute with fellow directors Owen Oyston and his son Karl for more than a year over claims they had taken £27million out of the club after their season in the Premier League in 2010/11. Owen Oyston, for example, paid himself a director's salary of £11million.

After months of wrangling between the parties, Justice Marcus Smith agreed with Belokon and ordered the Oystons to pay him more than £31million, plus costs, for "illegitimate stripping" of the club and "fundamental breaches" of their duties as directors.
The Oystons met the first installment of these payments but missed Wednesday's deadline for the second tranche and must now return to the high court on Monday to hear if their application for an extension will be approved.
Belokon denies any wrongdoing and his representatives say the verdict was politically motivated.
