Members of Century Boda Boda have petitioned the Security minister, Lt
Gen Henry Tumukunde, to intervene and have members of Boda Boda 2010
prosecuted for committing various atrocities against their members.
Mr Moses Jjemba, the head of justice and legal of Century Boda boda
Riders Association who signed the petition, said they decided to write
to Gen Tumukunde, after failing to get justice from Police.
“None of those were arrested. Where is justice in all this?” Mr Jjemba wondered.

The December 22 petition details some of the cases reported to police
that were never attended to by police who they accuse of being partisan
in the boda boda industry.
“He has not yet responded but the secretary received the letter. We hope he will respond to us,” Mr Musinguzi said.

Efforts to get a comment from Gen Tumukunde were futile as he could not
pick up his phone. The same petition was delivered to the Uganda Human
Rights Commission yesterday.
On Tuesday, another group of boda boda riders presented various police case file numbers which they said yielded no justice.

Police spokesman Emilian Kayima asked for more time as they investigate the cases.
“None of them has been found culpable. We need to follow each case individually. Let them give us time to investigate,” Mr Kayima said.

He
admitted the police had helped Boda Boda 2010 organise themselves but
described boda boda riders as a very unruly group who allow themselves
to be taken advantage of by politicians.
