Kayihura, Tumukunde fired By HE

KAMPALA - President
Yoweri Museveni has fired Gen. Kale Kayihura and Gen Henry Tumukunde
as Inspector General of Police (IGP) and Minister for security
respectively.
According to a press release from State
House, His excellence Yoweri Museveni has appointed Okoth Ochola, who has
been Kayihura’s deputy as the new Inspector General of Police(IGP).
Gen Elly Tumwine, on the other hand, has been appointed as new security minister, replacing Lt. Gen. Henry
Tumukunde.
A
statement dated March 4, reads: “In the Exercise of the powers vested
in the President by Articles 113 (1) and 213 (2) of the Constitution of
the Republic of Uganda, I hereby appoint General Elly Tumwiine as
Minister for Security, Mr Okoth Ochola as the Inspector General of
Police...
Meanwhile, Brig Sabiiti Muzeei has been appointed as the Deputy Inspector General of Police.
President
Museveni on May 2, 2017 reappointed Kayihura as IGP for another
three-year term, placing him at the helm of the country’s law and order
agency until 2020.
Unfortunately, his re appointment, which raised a lot of hullaballoo, did not even make it to its first birthday.
Kayihura
is a Ugandan lawyer, military officer and Policeman. He was the IGP of
the Uganda Police Force, the highest rank in the branch of Uganda's
Government.
He was born on December 26, 1955 and he is aged 63 years.
On the other hand, on June 6, 2017, the President appointed minister of security, an office he has served in for 19 months.
