The former president of Kenya H.E Mwai Kibaki who is fighting for his life at the Heart Hospital in South Africa has been awarded the 2016 Nobel Peace Prize Award while in sick bed.
According to the Nobel Foundation, Mwai Kibaki has emerged as the winner of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize award due to his role in ensuring peace and political stability in Kenya and Africa as a whole.
“We wish to congratulate him on this award and also use this opportunity to wish him a speedy recovery.” – The foundation’s representative in South Africa Brighton Francis said.
Kibaki was flown to South Africa few days ago for medical treatment after he was taken ill in his home country Kenya.
The Nobel Peace Prize is one of the five Nobel Prizes created by the Swedish industrialist, inventor, and armaments manufacturer Alfred Nobel, along with the prizes in Chemistry, Physics, Physiology or Medicine, and Literature. Since December 1901, it has been awarded annually (with some exceptions) to those who have “done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses”.
